  DJ Maphorisa is a native of Soshanguve, Pretoria, South Africa. His mother was a gospel singer, thus he was born into a musical family. This aided his musical career because he developed a deep passion for the genre while growing up and listening to gospel music. He has always credited his musical success to coming from a musically inclined family. He once claimed that his uncle, who gifted him with his first recording set, had a significant influence on his musical career. Since that time, he has been completely enamored with music. At a very young age, he began experimenting with music by playing his mother’s recordings. Later, his passion for poetry encouraged him to begin writing music.
